It’s no secret that I adore Kate White. I started reading her non-fiction in the late 90’s and I have loved her fiction novels (mysteries/thrillers) since the first one was published in 2002.
2017 has been a big year for White fans. The Secrets You Keep is the latest book in her stand-alone fiction series, but she has another novel due for publication in October this year (more about that in the next edition of Readin’ & Watchin’).
Protagonist Bryn is a damaged self-help author who is trying to find her feet following a near death experience. Plagued by vivid dreams of smoke and fire, she is hoping a fresh start in a new town with her devoted and loving husband is the first step on the road to recovery. When another woman in the township is brutally murdered (who just happened to be the caterer at her husband’s recent dinner party), Bryn quickly learns her husband has been keeping secrets from her….lots and lots of secrets.
Thrillers are my favourite fiction genre and I can usually pick the killer, but this one had me guessing until the very end. The book is filled with twists and turns, and you almost feel the need to see if something is burning in the kitchen!
