Readin’ & Watchin’

Readin' & Watchin'

Hola book/movie/Netflix lovers!

Welcome to Readin’ & Watchin’ – a place where I can share with you the best (or worst) of my latest literary, movie or Netflix consumption. Thanks for stopping by to check out my latest reads/watches and to see if I deem any of my latest reads as ‘bookcase worthy’. Long story short – I have a fancy-pants bookcase in my ‘good room’ and I’m determined to stop hoarding books just for the sake of it. If a book is a crap read….sayonara!

But don’t worry; this is a safe/low-pressure space. My aim is to share my reads and watches monthly, but if life gets in the way, then – c’est la vie! I know you understand.

Ps. Have you always wanted to be in a ridgey-didge book club that meets once a month to chat about a book and drink wine?? Yep, me too but diary logistics and the pressure of what plate of food I need to bring has always killed the idea. However, I have a cunning plan! Technology is marvellous and those little inventions like Facebook groups and Google Hangouts might just make this doable. If you are interested in joining a virtual book club for some friendly discussion, click below to register your interest. If enough people want in, I’d love to make it happen. In the meantime, you’ll get the latest instalment of Readin’ & Watchin’ before it hits social media xx

Her Every Fear

I always try to buy my books locally from brick & mortar stores (#ichoosesa) but when a book you’ve been hanging out for is available online weeks earlier that here in Adelaide….out came my credit card! I first came across Peter Swanson last year when the delightful Amanda in Dymocks Rundle Mall recommended his previous book to be – The Kind Worth Killing.

All the Missing Girls

All the Missing Girls was a slow start but it finished with a bang! Nicolette has barely visited her home town since the mysterious disappearance of her teenage best friend over a decade ago. When she returns home to pack up and sell her family home, another young girl goes missing in circumstances mirroring the events of 10 years earlier. Nicolette must piece together the events of the first disappearance so to avoid suspicion of the latest crime.

The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fu*k

This book was amazing! The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fu*k might not be for everyone, but I thought it was a brilliant read; the best non-fiction I’ve read in ages. Mark Manson has written the ultimate ‘anti’ self-help book that’s blunt, crass, honest and thought provoking…all at the same time.

The Capsule Wardrobe by Wendy Mak

Wendy Maks message is simple – create a fantastic and flexible wardrobe of over 1000 outfits using 30 essential pieces i.e. tops/bottoms/shoes and accessories. I have never been much of a clothes horse, but my wardrobe has contained all the wrong stuff.

Watching Edie

Full disclosure – this book scared the absolute bejesus out of me! I was wandering through Dymocks during the post-xmas sales and the cover caught my eye due to the stamp in the left-hand corner claiming it would be ‘the most unsettling psychological thriller you’ll read this year’. And it will be.

Th1rteen R3asons Why

Full disclosure – this series is full on. It’s confronting, it’s harrowing and it’s an incredibly sad portrayal of teenage bullying so bad that it depicts the suicide of the main character.

Santa Clarita Diet

Santa Clarita Diet is that perfect combination of hilariousness and weirdness, and you can just tell that the actors had a ball while making it.

Riverdale

Im not a massive comic book fan but I am loving the new The CW/Netflix Original Series called Riverdale. Its (very) loosely based on the Archie comics and the gangs all there – Archie, Jughead, Veronica, Betty etc.

The Minimalists: A Documentary About the Important Things

I first came across the duo behind The Minimalists– Joshua Field Milburn and Ryan Nicodemus in the Slow Your Home podcast on Jackrabbit.FM. The idea of living more with less is so appealing to someone like me who comes from a long line of hoarders.

The Crown

Full disclosure – I know very little about English history so I spent the first couple of episodes of ‘The Crown’ thinking - who’s he??, who’s she??
