The doco is very compelling and well worth a watch. Whether you’re #teamtony or a Tony skeptic (or somewhere in between like me) you can't help but be inspired in some way. There are many fist pump moments to be had.

I’m Not Your Guru

I have mixed feelings about Tony Robbins. As a kid, I can still remember my mum reading Awaken the Giant Within and I’ve listened to a few of his self-help CD’s over the years.

I’m Not Your Guru is the 2016 documentary that captures Robbins during one of his “Date with Destiny” seminars (at $5k a head). His engagement with the audience is nothing short of incredible. In just a few minutes he knows his subject intimately as if he has known them for years. The narrative is strong, personal and usually spot on.

However, I have always questioned the sustainability of the #robbinseffect. He lifts people up from rock bottom and within minutes they are soaring with the eagles (or Tony in this case). They hug. They cry. The audience claps and cheers and the room is filled with love and support.

But then what??

You might attend Date with Destiny, pay your $5k, get up early, exercise, eat and attend workshops with hundreds of other souls desperate for change….but eventually you have to go back home.

Is 5 days with Robbins enough to truly turn your life around?? Thousands of people worldwide would say ‘yes’ but I bet a can of Coke that just as many people (maybe more) would say ‘no’ despite the best of intentions.

Anyhoo, the doco is very compelling and well worth a watch. Whether you’re #teamtony or a Tony skeptic (or somewhere in between like me) you can't help but be inspired in some way. There are many fist pump moments to be had.
